  • 4-H Bottle Project - Formerly known as Bucket Calf Program

Contact the Extension Office for the latest Bottle Project Guidelines and Workbook.

Who: Youth who are enrolled in Creek County Schools, Home School Groups, or are residents in a Creek County. 4-H membership is not required to start the program, but youth must be enrolled in 4-H before the fair. Youth must be between the ages of 5 to 12 AND entering Kindergarten through 7th grade.

What: Acquire a 1-10 day old market or dairy calf, goat kid, or lamb, from Feb 1st-May 15th. Youth will care for the animal, break it to lead, and maintain accurate feed, financial and health records which includes completion of the 4-H Bottle Project Workbook. You may nominate up to two animals no later than May 17th at the Creek County Extension Office. However, only one animal may be exhibited in the Bottle Project Showmanship contest at the fair. Nominations do not have to be two of the same species. Youth will be entered into one of three age groups (5 to 7 K-2, 8 to 10 3rd-5th, 11 to 12 6th-7th) based on their age as of September 1st and judged on their individual knowledge of your project. This program is designed to make sure you learn about livestock care and responsibility.

    2. To teach proper health care and nutritional requirements of young livestock.
    3. To teach basic livestock management skills without a large investment.
    4. To teach basic record-keeping skills.
    5. To provide a better understanding of the livestock industry.

  • Pullet Chain

This program is sponsored by the Creek County 4-H Poultry Club. Creek County 4-H and FFA members age 5+ will need to bring their deposit to the Creek County OSU Extension Office by January 19th to participate. All participants should be enrolled in 4-H or FFA in Creek County.

Youth may choose either 5 or 10 pullets (female chicks) which will come in late March or April. Cost for 2025 will be $25/5 or $50/10. The youth will then care for the chicks through the summer and bring 1 (if they received 5 chicks) or 2 (if they received 10) of their best pullets to the Pullet Chain Show and Auction in October. The pullets will be judged and then be auctioned to the highest bidder. A portion of the proceeds ($10 per bird) will go back to the Poultry Club for awards and any additional profits will be retained by the exhibitor. In 2024, the average price per bird was over $80 and ranged from $45-$200.

Pullet Chain birds may still be shown at the Creek County Fair, however we have chosen to do the show/auction on a different date to help attract more buyers.

Potential dates for the new Pullet Chain Show/Auction will be October 24th.

Due to high demand of chicks in the US right now, we will not be able to select breeds in advance. Breeds will be large fowl known for their production capabilities. Once breeds are determined, youth will be able to rank their choices. First choice will be given to those that have previously completed the chain, and then on a first come first served basis.

Listed below are the resources for Pullet Chain:

    • Registration Form - Due to the Creek County OSU Extension Office by Friday, January 24th, 2025.

A weekly leader board will be posted on our Facebook page for a little friendly competition. Weekly winners will be announced and receive a special prize! Members who complete the program will be invited to a special celebration!

This program is free to join, however, you will need to get a pedometer. There are many options so chose the one is best for your member! We have some basic pedometers available at the Extension Office for $5 while supplies last.

Several dates have been set aside for Get Fit Fridays! We will meet at different area parks and trails to walk/hike together as a group! This is not a requirement of the program, but a good way to enjoy the great outdoor with some of your best 4-H friends! Save these dates in your calendar: June 11th & 25th, July 9th &23rd

Get FIT 4-H was designed to keep our 4-H members moving throughout the summer! We hope this will help to inspire a healthy and active lifestyle among our 4-H members that will leave a lifelong impact!
